CHICAGO, IL – A grim incident unfolded early Monday morning in Chicago when a security guard was gunned down near the University of Illinois Chicago athletic fields. As per the details provided by the police, more than a dozen shell casings were found by investigators at the crime scene.
The victim of the deadly shooting was identified as a 44-year-old security guard, a father working with the Benford security company. The man was employed at the BJ Wright Court apartments, a housing complex across the street where the incident happened.
One of the local residents, Lauro Lopez, reported hearing loud gunshots around 4 a.m. He claims that the shots were so loud that he initially thought the incident was taking place inside his condo building.
In the attack, several cars parked in the vicinity were damaged by bullet fire. The security guard was shot multiple times in the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police. Uncertainty remains regarding the number of gunmen involved and the reasons behind the attack targeting the security guard.
Following the shooting incident, the alleged culprits reportedly fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan.
As Lisa Ludwig, a concerned local resident, remarked, the arrival of summer might escalate such violent incidents. So far, Area Three detectives have taken over the investigation but haven’t made any arrests related to the case.
