Mother charged with murdering her 7-year-old daughter

RIVIERA BEACH, FL – A mother in Riviera Beach faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of her seven-year-old daughter, following an extensive investigation that began in April. The child was discovered unresponsive in her home, sparking a case that has gripped the community.

Police responded to an emergency call on April 28, finding the young girl in critical condition at a West 15th Street residence. She was quickly transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but tragically, she was pronounced dead the next day. The investigation revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the stomach, ruling it a homicide.

Authorities identified Nakisha Williams, the girl’s mother, as the sole suspect. A neighbor, who had tried to assist the family, expressed disbelief at the living conditions within the home, describing it as extremely neglected.

The neighbor recounted a conversation with the child, who revealed that her mother seldom bathed her. Despite offers to help, the child expressed a desire for her mother to care for her.

On June 25, a grand jury indicted Williams for first-degree murder, with prosecutors alleging the act was premeditated. The neighbor was shocked by the charges, emphasizing the gravity of a mother being accused of such a crime.

Authorities apprehended Williams early Friday morning, with U.S. Marshals locating her and taking her into custody. She is now being held at the Palm Beach County Jail.

The State Attorney’s Office explained that the time taken to arrest Williams was due to the thorough preparation required to present the case to the grand jury. Records indicate Williams has a history of legal issues, including assault and theft.

As the case progresses, the community remains in shock, grappling with the details of this tragic incident. Williams is set to appear in court soon, where the next steps in this heartbreaking case will be determined.
