Broward sheriff’s detectives are investigating after Pembroke Pines police found two people dead Monday morning at a Pine Drive residence.
PEMBROKE PINES, FL — Two people were found dead inside a Pembroke Pines home Monday morning, prompting an investigation led by the Broward Sheriff’s Office into how they died, authorities said.
Broward County Regional Communications received a 911 call at about 7:12 a.m. reporting two people unresponsive at a home in the 8300 block of Pine Drive. Pembroke Pines police officers responded and found both people inside the residence. They were pronounced dead, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Pembroke Pines police requested assistance from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, whose detectives responded and took the lead in investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Authorities had not released the identities of the two people or announced their causes of death as of Monday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Office described what happened as an isolated incident and said investigators had identified no continuing threat to the surrounding community. Officials had not publicly said whether detectives suspected a crime or disclosed what evidence was found inside the residence.
The home is at 8330 Pine Drive, within the campus of Children’s Harbor, an organization that provides transitional housing and other services for young adults leaving foster care. Children’s Harbor President Theresa Kennedy told Local 10 News that the unit where the deaths occurred is not owned by the organization. She said it is owned and managed by the city of Pembroke Pines.
A neighbor told Local 10 News that she heard several loud sounds during the night that she believed were gunshots. The account had not been independently confirmed by investigators, and authorities had not publicly said whether gunfire was involved in the deaths.
Investigators remained at the property Monday as they worked to determine what happened before police were called. Authorities had not released information about the relationship between the two people, how long they had been inside the home or who made the initial 911 call.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office investigation remains active. No additional information about the identities of the deceased, the causes or manner of their deaths, or other circumstances surrounding the case had been released by Monday evening.
