PULASKI, TN – A routine day turned into a scene of chaos when a car plowed into the Town Square Market in Pulaski, Tennessee. The dramatic incident unfolded during what should have been a quiet evening, leaving the store’s owner, Mack Patel, reflecting on the narrow escape and the community’s resilience.
The store’s front doors are now boarded up, a stark reminder of the unexpected crash. Patel had just taken over the shift from an employee when the incident occurred. A regular customer had approached the counter to purchase a lottery ticket, a familiar and friendly face in the store.
Timing was everything. Patel had moved to the other side of the counter when the vehicle crashed through the storefront, narrowly missing him and pinning his customer against the counter. The impact was sudden and violent, leaving Patel in shock but unharmed.
In the chaotic moments that followed, Patel directed the driver to reverse the car, freeing his customer from the wreckage. Though the customer was in pain, Patel’s quick thinking likely prevented further injury.
As Patel surveys the damage and begins the cleanup process, he expresses gratitude that no lives were lost. The incident has underscored the close-knit nature of the Pulaski community, where people look out for one another.
“I care about the people, and they care about me,” Patel said, reflecting on the community’s support. He remains optimistic and looks forward to welcoming his customer back once the store is repaired.
The driver, 48-year-old Tabitha Phillips, has been charged with driving under the influence, vehicular assault, and driving uninsured. She is currently held in the Giles County Jail.
Despite the setback, Patel hopes to reopen the market within the next week, eager to restore normalcy to his business and community.
