Man shot by police

A 23-year-old man who was shot by law enforcement in Riverdale on Thursday night has died, according to a statement released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Darryl Fussell was shot by police officers who were called to investigate alleged trespassing at a medical office on River Park Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. Police were informed that two men were believed to be on the site without permission, which was undergoing renovations at the time.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers were informed by contractors that one man had already left the building after being asked to leave. The other man, believed to be Fussell, was still inside.

According to the statement, police officers asked Fussell to leave, but he refused. While attempting to persuade him to leave, Fussell allegedly grabbed a sharp tool and rushed at the officers.

In response, an officer pulled out his weapon and shot Fussell. The Dacula resident was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The GBI is currently investigating the shooting. Following an autopsy and a conclusion by investigators, the findings will be presented to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
