University students killed in stabbing attack

In Nottingham, a man is facing serious charges in connection to a violent incident that claimed the lives of three people.

Two 19-year-old students at the University of Nottingham, Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar lost their lives. Ian Coates, 65, was also killed. The stabbing took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The accused, 31-year-old Valdo Calocane, who has no permanent residence, is facing three counts of murder. In addition, he has been charged with three counts of attempted murder. His hearing is set to take place on Saturday at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.

Kate Meynell, the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police, highlighted the importance of these charges. She expressed the police’s ongoing support and reassurance for the families and friends of those affected by these attacks.

Adding to the complexity of the case, the University of Nottingham disclosed that Calocane was a former student. However, the police have clarified that this detail is not believed to be linked to the attacks.
