Two-year-old girl killed after being attacked by dogs

HOUSTON, TX – In an extremely tragic incident, a 2-year-old girl was fatally attacked by three Rottweiler dogs at a north Houston residence on Monday. The incident, which occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Milwaukee Street near Gold Street just inside the 610 North Loop, has shocked the local community. Law enforcement officers who responded to a vicious animal call discovered the young girl had been attacked by the dogs.

Though the girl was immediately transported to Texas Children’s Hospital by Houston firefighters, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The child’s identity and cause of death are still in the process of being verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to preliminary information from investigators, the dogs attacked the child in the caretaker’s residence. A woman at the house revealed that the girl was related to the occupants of the home.

The neighborhood is recovering from this horrifying event. Deja Thomas, a neighbor who has two small children, said, “Honestly, I cried.” She added, “I’m not scared of dogs, but I’m scared for my kids to be around them.”

Animal control agency, BARC, reported that the owners turned the dogs over to them. The dogs were then humanely put down. Anyone with further information about the case is urged to contact the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division. The investigation is ongoing.
