Food delivery driver shot near Catholic University

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The family of Ruben Munoz Romero is grappling with grief after the 38-year-old food delivery worker was fatally shot in Northeast Washington. Munoz Romero, a father of seven, was discovered with a gunshot wound on Michigan Avenue, near the Catholic University campus, on Monday night. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

Munoz Romero’s brother, Robert, shared that Ruben had emigrated from Venezuela two years ago in search of a safer life and better opportunities. Ruben had been working tirelessly as a food delivery driver to support his family back home. Robert expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the impact on Ruben’s seven children who are now left without their father.

According to investigators, Munoz Romero fell off his moped near the basilica at Catholic University, but the exact location of the shooting remains unclear. The incident prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order at the university, which was lifted after authorities determined there was no immediate threat to the campus.

The D.C. police are actively investigating the case, reviewing nearby surveillance footage and appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of the perpetrator. As of now, no suspects have been identified, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

Robert described his brother as a hardworking and caring individual who got along well with everyone. He is pleading for justice and hopes that someone with information will come forward to help solve the case.

The community is left in shock and mourning, with many questioning the safety of those who work long hours to provide for their families. Ruben Munoz Romero’s tragic death underscores the ongoing issues of violence and the need for stronger measures to protect vulnerable workers.
