GREENFIELD, WI – A tragic police chase that began late Sunday night in Muskego has left two teenage girls in critical condition and claimed the lives of two others. The pursuit, which started at Idle Isle Park around 10:20 p.m., ended in a devastating crash in New Berlin.
The incident has left the community in mourning, particularly at the high school of one of the victims, a 17-year-old girl from Greenfield. Classes are set to resume in about a month, but some students returned early to grieve and support each other, laying flowers at the crash site to honor their friend.
Muskego police have not released the names of the victims but confirmed that the deceased Greenfield girl was a passenger in the fleeing vehicle. Authorities observed suspicious behavior at Idle Isle Park, prompting the attempted traffic stop that led to the chase. The car, carrying four young women, sped north on Martin Drive and continued for about two miles into New Berlin. The high-speed pursuit ended when the vehicle failed to navigate a turn onto National Avenue and crashed.
The 19-year-old driver from East Troy also lost her life in the collision. Two other passengers, a 17-year-old girl from East Troy and a 16-year-old girl from Milwaukee, remain in critical condition. Police sirens were reportedly heard close behind the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Muskego police have not provided further details on the suspicious behavior that initiated the chase. The incident is currently under investigation by Muskego Police, New Berlin Police, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
