WASHINGTON, D.C. – Law enforcement officials in the capital are mounting an exhaustive search for a suspect in a mass shooting event on Sunday. The shooting caused the tragic loss of two lives and left five adults injured, according to police reports.
The horrific incident occurred in the vicinity of 7th and P Streets, a section of the city located in the northwestern region. A man who was seen sprinting south on 7th Street, away from the scene of the crime, is currently being pursued by the police.
A press briefing was hastily arranged at the crime scene. Jeffrey Carroll, the Acting Assistant Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, shared information about the incident at this press briefing.
First responders arrived at the site of the incident at around 3 a.m. ET, Carroll stated. Investigation sources revealed that the two victims who perished were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Currently, the police department is withholding the victims’ identities, only revealing that the injured parties are all adults.
Several hours after the mass shooting took place, the details of the injuries suffered by the five victims had not yet been made available. The definition of a mass shooting, as per the Gun Violence Archive, is an incident where four or more people, excluding the gunman, are either injured or killed.
