INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In a disturbing incident, seven children aged 12 to 17 were injured in a mass shooting in the bustling downtown area of Indianapolis late Saturday night. The shooting took place near the Circle Centre Mall, a frequented shopping plaza in the city, as reported by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
The incident came to light shortly after 11 p.m. when patrolling officers heard gunshots in the vicinity of West Maryland Street. On reaching the spot, they discovered a large assembly of juveniles, six of whom had sustained gunshot injuries. This information was relayed by Police Deputy Chief Tanya Terry at a news conference on Sunday morning.
All the injured were immediately rushed to local hospitals, and an additional victim was admitted later, as per Terry. One of the victims, initially critical, has since been stabilized, confirmed hospital officials.
The victims include four boys and three girls. By Sunday morning, all victims were declared stable by the medical authorities. The Circle Centre Mall, the scene of the incident, is situated in the city’s vibrant nightlife district, surrounded by numerous bustling bars and restaurants.
The cause of the shooting is yet to be determined. As of Sunday morning, no suspects have been taken into custody.
