MIAMI, FL – A young police officer from Louisiana tragically passed away following a cosmetic surgery in Miami, raising concerns about the risks associated with such procedures. Wilderness Rosa, 26, traveled to Miami in March for a Brazilian Butt Lift, a decision that led to her untimely death just days later.
Rosa, who served as a police officer in New Orleans and had recently returned from a deployment in Kuwait with the U.S. Army Reserve, had a bright future ahead. Her sister, Ana Vasquez, shared that Rosa aspired to work for the FBI, illustrating her ambition and dedication to serving her community and country.
Rosa’s family was unaware of her plans for surgery, believing she was taking a birthday trip to Miami. The procedure, which included liposuction and fat transfer injections, cost $7,500 at Prestige Plastic Surgery Clinic.
Three days post-surgery, Rosa’s family sensed something was amiss when she did not respond to their messages. By March 23, Rosa was found unresponsive by a friend at a short-term rental. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner reported her death as a result of a pulmonary embolism, a complication from blood clots related to the cosmetic procedure.
Vasquez recounted the distressing signs Rosa exhibited after the surgery. She experienced severe pain and alarming symptoms, including pale skin, dilated pupils, and lack of sensation in her legs. Despite these red flags, it was too late to save her.
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office has recorded 25 deaths related to cosmetic surgeries over the past three and a half years, highlighting the potential dangers of these procedures. Vasquez hopes her sister’s story serves as a cautionary tale for others considering similar surgeries.
Prestige Plastic Surgery, when contacted, did not recall Rosa’s case and provided no specific answers to inquiries, but maintained that they adhere to all protocols.
