Police recover two bodies from local lake in potential murder-suicide case

Claremore, Oklahoma Police are investigating a murder-suicide after the recovery of two bodies from a local lake. The incident unfolded when officers were alerted to a potential murder-suicide at a residence near Blue Starr Drive and North Sioux Ave. Simultaneously, a call came in reporting a sinking truck on the north side of Claremore Lake. As authorities worked diligently to locate the submerged vehicle, they made a grim discovery that linked the two incidents together.

Claremore Fire, in collaboration with the police department, utilized sonar technology to locate the sunken truck and placed a buoy as a marker for retrieval the following day. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol also provided assistance by dispatching a diver to aid in the operation. Tragically, upon recovering the truck, officers found the lifeless bodies of two individuals inside. The victims were later identified as 26-year-old Candace Kehoe and her ex-husband, George Kehoe.

Claremore Police revealed that the deceased couple had been embroiled in child-custody issues. However, during the time of the incident, the children were safely at home with a family member. Officer Brian Burnett expressed his shock and extended condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy. The community, like the police, is left wondering what could have led to such a devastating outcome.

Authorities suspect that Candace Kehoe died as a result of a violent encounter with George Kehoe, who then turned the gun on himself. Officer Burnett stated that while it is clear George suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the cause of Candace’s injuries remains uncertain at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone experiencing a mental health crisis to reach out to the suicide lifeline at 988.

As investigators delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide, they hope to shed light on the factors that led to this heartbreaking outcome.
