BIRMINGHAM, AL – A 20-year-old woman from Jasper, Alabama, who was reportedly missing and claimed to be held hostage, was found dead on a Birmingham roadside. Mahogany Jaquise Jackson’s body was found by a passerby who alerted the authorities in the early hours of Monday.
The police found Jackson unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound upon their arrival at the scene in southwest Birmingham. On Wednesday, the Birmingham Police Department announced the arrest of four men and three women in connection with Jackson’s death. The seven suspects are charged with several crimes, including capital murder, felony murder, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree kidnapping.
Video evidence of portions of the crime was discovered by the police while investigating the case. It was established that Jackson was friendly and familiar with the suspects. As it stands, the suspects are being held without bond in the Jefferson County jail.
The Birmingham Police Department listed Jackson as missing around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday. Jackson was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, and a blonde wig on the day before her disappearance. She sent a text message to her family at approximately 7:30 a.m., indicating she was being held hostage, and has not been heard from since.
Jackson’s mother reported receiving a text message from her daughter asking for the police, along with details about the location. Although the police have not shared how they responded, family members and the police raced to the location provided, which was an apartment. The resident of the apartment, an acquaintance of Jackson’s, initially refused to let them in. She later agreed and reported that Jackson had left at around 2 a.m.
