Man arrested for killing and burning the corpse of his ex-girlfriend

A shocking discovery was made by the Gwinnett County Police Department (GPCD) during a welfare check on Thursday.

Rubi Maldonado Nava, a resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was notably absent. After speaking with people familiar with her, GPCD officers suspected her ex-boyfriend, Jahir Alejandro Conteras Sagahon of committing the unthinkable crime.

The officers tracked Sagahon down and noticed that he had many severe burns on his face and hands while they were questioning him.

Sagahon confessed to the GPCD that an altercation in front of the couple’s child led to him choking Nava until she was no longer breathing. Sagahon then said that he put her body in her car and drove it to an Oglethorpe County area and set it on fire.

The Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office located the badly charred vehicle and discovered skeletal remains inside. These remains were passed on to the medical examiner’s office to be identified.

As a result, Sagahon has been arrested and charged with felony murder, third-degree cruelty to children and aggravated assault. He has since been booked into Gwinnett County Jail. The GPCD swiftly began investigating the grisly case on Thursday.
