Las Vegas reporter Jeff German found stabbed outside home – Los Angeles Times

Jeff German, a respected investigative reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was found dead with stab wounds outside his home Saturday morning.

Las Vegas police said they are working to apprehend the suspect in the homicide investigation.

Police responded to the 7200 block of Bronze Circle, near North Tenaya Way, around 10:30 a.m. Saturday and found the man dead with multiple stab wounds outside of his home. The victim was believed to have been involved in an altercation with another person on Friday.

German joined the Review-Journal in 2010 after more than two decades at the Las Vegas Sun, where he covered courts, politics, labor, government and organized crime.

Geoff Schumacher, vice president of exhibits and programs at The Mob Museum, said Jeff German was totally dedicated to his work as a reporter and broke many exclusive stories. German worked very hard to scoop the competitors.

German’s investigative work always had an impact, and he exposed failures in city inspections before the deadly Alpine Motel Apartments fire in 2019, and claims of bullying, hostility and mismanagement at the Clark County public administrator’s office.

German got the story about a felon who beat charges of robbing three jewelry stores because of government misconduct- and then returned to the scene of one of the stores to rob it again. German also revealed that Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson had allowed a campaign aide to steal $42,000.

Tributes to German were many across Nevada and the Las Vegas Valley on Sunday. German was a tough but fair reporter and a great mentor to young reporters.
