MIAMI, FL — Miami police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday near the city’s Design District, where officers found a person who had been shot and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers responded at about 5 a.m. to 4606 NW Fifth Ave. after receiving a report involving someone believed to have been an intruder, according to Miami police. Miami Fire Rescue personnel pronounced the person dead at the scene. Authorities had not released the deceased person’s identity as of the latest reports.

Police also had not released the name of the person being questioned.
A Miami police crime-scene forensics vehicle was seen along Northwest Fifth Avenue between 46th and 47th streets as investigators worked at the scene. Detectives were examining what happened before the gunfire and the relationship, if any, between the people involved.
Authorities had not released information about the weapon involved, how many shots were fired or whether investigators recovered a firearm. Police also had not announced a motive or said whether surveillance video or other evidence had been collected from the property.
Some residents told NBC 6 South Florida that the shooting raised concerns about safety in the neighborhood. Resident Jake Schuster said the incident was “surprising and concerning,” while another resident, Sebastian Gonzalez, expressed frustration about crime in the area.
The shooting occurred near Miami’s Design District and surrounding neighborhoods, an area that includes homes, businesses and heavily traveled streets. Police did not report any additional injuries or indicate that there was an ongoing threat to the public in the immediate aftermath.
Detectives continued investigating the shooting Monday. Authorities had not announced whether the case would result in charges, and the identity of the person who died remained unreleased. Police asked anyone with information to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers.
