Husband of woman missing in Spain arrested at Miami International Airport

MIAMI, FL – Federal and international law enforcement agencies arrested David Knezevich, 36, on Saturday, the spouse of a Florida woman who mysteriously disappeared from her Madrid, Spain, apartment in early February.

Ana Maria Knezevich, 40, was last seen on February 2 around 10 p.m., shortly after an unidentified man, donned in a motorcycle helmet, defaced surveillance cameras in her Salamanca district apartment building with spray paint. David was apprehended at Miami International Airport in connection with his wife’s disappearance, according to a statement from Spain’s national police force, PolicĂa Nacional.

The FBI confirmed David’s arrest, citing his alleged involvement in the abduction of a U.S. citizen in Madrid on or around February 2, 2024. The arrest was executed without incident, and David is currently in federal custody, with an initial court appearance expected in Miami. The investigation is ongoing, involving the Spanish National Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Diplomatic Security Service, and the FBI.

David’s lawyer, Ken Padowitz, confirmed the arrest and stated that he would be meeting with his client in court. Meanwhile, Ana’s friend, Sanna Rameau, expressed relief over the arrest, hoping it would bring justice and answers to Ana’s disappearance.

Ana’s brother, Juan Henao, had previously informed Fort Lauderdale police about the couple’s contentious divorce proceedings, with significant financial stakes involved. He expressed deep concern for his sister’s safety. The couple, originally from Serbia, had been discussing divorce, and Ana had been spending considerable time in Europe with friends.

The couple jointly ran an IT company in South Florida and were involved in real estate. Rameau described them as a “successful couple” who had been married for 13 years before deciding to separate last summer. Ana’s sudden disappearance, however, has left friends and family in shock and uncertainty.
