LAS VEGAS, NV – A Las Vegas resident, Eddi Moreno Jr., faces charges of open murder with a deadly weapon following an alleged shooting of his neighbor, Joe Moreno (no relation), 47, while his wife was on a 9-1-1 call on Monday evening. The incident unfolded after Moreno Jr. and his family returned home from their daughter’s soccer game to find Joe Moreno near their premises, as per a police report.
The report reveals that Joe was locked out of his house by his girlfriend following a disagreement. Moreno Jr.’s wife informed the police that her husband retrieved a gun from a backpack, exited their vehicle, and confronted Joe, accusing him of attempted burglary. She stated that Joe then exposed himself and made inappropriate gestures towards Moreno Jr., who then allegedly shot him. The 911 call recorded during the incident captured several gunshots.
Moreno Jr. informed the police that Joe had been peering over their wall into his backyard and had threatened him, claims which were disputed by the police in their report. Moreno Jr. stated that he had warned Joe that he would shoot if Joe approached him. The incident was captured on a neighbor’s doorbell camera, which recorded Moreno Jr. yelling, “I am going to murder you, come right here!”
Following the shooting, the doorbell camera recorded Moreno Jr. saying, “That’s what he gets. He’s not going to do that in front of my kids. Are you crazy?” When questioned if Joe had exposed himself, Moreno Jr. stated he did not recall seeing Joe’s genitals before the shooting, but believed they were exposed after the incident.
First responders found Joe bleeding in his driveway. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds, as confirmed by the Clark County Coroner’s office, which ruled his death a homicide. Officers discovered five cartridge casings at the scene, and Joe was found to be unarmed.
Moreno Jr. appeared in court on Thursday morning, where his bail was set at $100,000. The judge instructed him not to interact with Joe’s girlfriend and prohibited him from possessing firearms at his property. He is currently out of jail, with his next court date scheduled for August 13.
