Five-year-old twins found dead in apartment

BRONX, NY – Police in the Bronx continue their investigation into the death of 5-year-old twins. The siblings, a boy and a girl, were found unresponsive in their East 175th Street apartment on Monday.

Every week, the family would visit the food pantry on Topping Avenue in the Mount Hope neighborhood. Pastor Randholf Andujar of the food pantry remarked on the regularity of their visits and the care the mother showed her children. The absent trio was notably missed in Monday’s line, prompting concern among the pantry staff.

Responding to a 911 distress call from the children’s mother, police arrived at the scene just before noon on Monday. Authorities note that the children had an underlying health condition and had been sent home from school due to sickness the previous week.

NYPD Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley described the scene as heartbreaking, evoking sympathy for the parents in this troubling time.

Investigators are exploring the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event and have yet to determine whether it was accident or crime. Authorities reported that there was no carbon monoxide detected in the residence, the children had no visible injuries, and there was no history of domestic violence within the family.

While the community awaits answers, they extend their support through candlelight vigils and prayers. The children’s father is cooperating with police at the precinct while their mother has been hospitalized due to emotional distress.
