Early on Friday morning, tragedy struck a home in Miami Lakes, Florida. Five lives were lost to the shock of gun violence, leaving family members and the community at large in a state of deep sorrow and disbelief.
The local Miami-Dade police responded to a call from a relative requesting a welfare check for the home’s residents. Upon entering through an unlocked window, they found five bodies, two men and three women, with fatal gunshot wounds.
Rolando Aguilar, who identified himself as the ex-husband of one of the victims, revealed the identities of two of those lost in the attack— his 54-year-old ex-wife, Joanka Aguilar, and their 34-year-old son, Dhany Aguilar.
His shock and heartbreak were echoed by the neighborhood and community who is still trying to make sense of the incomprehensible tragedy.
The motivations behind the shooting remain a mystery. One neighbor expressed confusion as to why five people, including the shooter, were killed so viciously.
The shooter, still unidentified, had also taken their own life with a self-inflicted gunshot.
