Murder Investigation Underway after Dismembered Body Found in Concrete-Filled Barrel

A man who disappeared over a month ago has been identified as the dismembered body found inside a concrete-filled barrel in North Carolina. Michael Bradley Cox had been reported missing in December 2022, and authorities have now charged Jackie Lamar Bright with his murder.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a home and connecting parcel of land in Sanford on January 25, where detectives discovered the 55-gallon barrel containing concrete and suspected human remains. The dismembered body was found after the concrete was removed from the barrel.

On January 6, Bright was taken into custody for unrelated criminal charges. Bright had been released from prison in May 2022. He bonded out of jail but was arrested again on January 11 for parole violation and additional controlled substance violations.

While the investigation is still ongoing, additional charges are expected to be filed against Bright. Authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the alleged killing.
