A woman has died after being attacked by a shark during snorkeling in the Bahamas, a spokesperson for the Royal Caribbean Group confirmed.
The woman, a passenger on Royal Caribbeans Harmony of the Seas cruise ship, was attacked by the shark on Tuesday “while taking an independent excursion offshore,” a spokeswoman told CBS News.
The incident involved a 58-year-old woman from Pennsylvania occurred in a popular snorkeling area off Green Cay in the northern Bahamas, Police Chief Deputy Krislyn Skeppings said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries, cruise lines said.
As the Ocean has reached record temperatures sharks have gotten to extra lengths to find and pursue potential food. This has led to numerous shark attacks in places outside of the expected beaches of Florida.
Each time it is a healthy reminder the ocean is home to many predatory fish.
