The 17-year-old girl underwent surgery after being struck near Clay Drive and Macland Road in Cobb County.
COBB COUNTY, GA — A 19-year-old man has been charged with hit-and-run after police said a 17-year-old girl was run over by an SUV following an argument in a Cobb County neighborhood.
Police identified the accused as Daniel Marseillie, 19. The incident happened near Clay Drive and Macland Road, according to WSB-TV. Investigators have not publicly detailed what led to the dispute or explained the relationships among the people involved. The investigation remained ongoing as of the latest report.
Jacqueline Collins, a witness who rushed to help the injured teenager, said she heard loud voices coming from inside an SUV before the girl ended up in the roadway. Collins said the commotion appeared serious enough that she began calling 911.
Collins told WSB-TV that she then saw the 17-year-old come out of the back of the vehicle. Collins said she believed someone had pushed the girl from the SUV, but authorities have not publicly confirmed that account. The witness said the SUV then moved forward and a rear tire ran over the teenager.
According to Collins, the driver did not remain at the scene after the girl was struck. She said the SUV quickly left the neighborhood while she stopped her own vehicle and ran to the injured teen as she continued speaking with a 911 dispatcher.
Collins stayed with the girl until emergency crews arrived. She said the area was dark and she was concerned that another driver entering the subdivision might not see the injured teenager lying in the roadway. Collins, who runs the Cobb County Youth Track League, said she tried to keep the girl calm while waiting for first responders.
Investigators said the 17-year-old underwent surgery and spent several days in the hospital recovering from her injuries. Authorities have not released additional information about the nature of those injuries or her current condition. The teenager’s name has not been made public in the report.
Police have announced a hit-and-run charge against Marseillie. No additional charges were reported, and authorities have not released further findings about how the girl came out of the SUV or what happened during the argument that preceded the incident. A criminal charge is an allegation, and the case has not been adjudicated.
The Cobb County investigation remains open. Police had not announced additional arrests or publicly answered the remaining questions about the circumstances inside the SUV as of the latest available reporting.
