Dallas police are searching for suspects after multiple rounds were fired early Saturday at an apartment complex on Highland Village Drive.
DALLAS, TX — A 25-year-old woman died and five other people were hospitalized after a shooting early Saturday at an apartment complex in southeast Oak Cliff, authorities said.
Dallas police said officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. Sept. 12 to the 5900 block of Highland Village Drive after receiving a report of a shooting. Investigators said unknown suspects fired several rounds at the location. Six people were ultimately taken to hospitals, according to updated reports from police. One of them, identified as Zariea Brown, 25, later died.
The shooting prompted a search for those responsible as detectives worked to determine what led to the gunfire. Police had not announced a motive, identified any suspects or reported an arrest as of early Sunday. Authorities also had not released detailed information about the conditions of the five surviving victims.
Initial reports Saturday said Dallas Fire-Rescue transported at least five people to area hospitals, including one person who was in critical condition. Later updates said six people had been hospitalized and confirmed that Brown died from her injuries. The difference reflected information released as authorities continued investigating the shooting and accounting for the victims.
FOX 4 reported that bullet holes could be seen in walls and windows at the apartment complex after the shooting. A man who was at the property told the station that people scattered when shots began and that he helped a wounded woman until emergency crews arrived. The witness asked that his identity not be made public.
The 5900 block of Highland Village Drive is in southeast Oak Cliff. Police have released little information about what was happening at the apartment complex immediately before the shooting or whether the victims were specifically targeted. Authorities also have not said how many people may have fired weapons or provided descriptions of anyone being sought.
The case remained under investigation Sunday. Dallas police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detective B. Billings as investigators continued working to identify the people responsible and establish the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
