BRONX, NY – Four individuals were apprehended for questioning following the discovery of a 70-year-old woman’s body concealed in a garbage bag within a high-end Bronx apartment building. The incident occurred on Grand Concourse Avenue in Mott Haven, with police arriving at the scene shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday.
The deceased woman, originally from Georgia, was temporarily residing with family members in the Bronx apartment. Upon arrival, authorities pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The grim discovery was made by the victim’s daughter-in-law, whose mother is the apartment’s official tenant.
The police questioned four family members, two men and two women, in connection with the incident. However, three of them were subsequently released. Inga Bearden, 53, was charged with the felony of concealing a corpse. The nature of Bearden’s relationship to the deceased remains unclear.
While there were no visible signs of physical trauma on the body, authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to establish the cause of death. This incident follows closely on the heels of another similar case, where 52-year-old Nadia Vitel was found hidden in a duffel bag in her Kips Bay apartment. Two squatters were later arrested in Pennsylvania after fleeing New York in Vitel’s stolen vehicle and subsequently crashing it.
