Woman found dead inside duffel bag in her apartment

MANHATTAN, NY – Local residents were struck with horror when a woman’s body was discovered in her New York apartment. Her remains were hidden away in a duffle bag. Identified as 52-year-old Nadia Vitel, her body was discovered during a welfare check at her 19th-floor residence in Kips Bay, Manhattan.

Authorities arrived at the scene to check on her after concerns were raised by her family. Family members reportedly lost contact with Vitel, triggering worry about her welfare.

Accompanied by her son and the building superintendent, the police found Vitel’s body when they entered her apartment at about 4:30 PM on Thursday. After she was discovered, Vitel was declared deceased on the spot.

Further review of surveillance footage from the apartment building revealed that Vitel had last been seen entering the building on March 10. The footage also showed two unidentified people accessing the building. This detail of the unknown figures added to the mystery surrounding Vitel’s peculiar death.

As police investigated the area, some of Vitel’s personal belongings were found near the building’s garbage disposal. No official cause of death has been established as of yet. However, an investigation by the police and city medical examiner is currently underway.
