Dad shot to death in his driveway

LOMBARD, IL – A family man and ardent mechanic, Alaa Ghnimat, was found fatally shot late on Monday evening. The 38-year-old resident of Lombard was found dead at around 9:30 p.m. in his home’s driveway, according to DuPage County Sheriff’s Office data.

Ghnimat, a father of three children, was discovered inside his vehicle by sherriff’s deputies, who responded to a reported shooting. His vehicle was towed to conduct further forensic scrutiny.

Mourning family members explained that Ghnimat had achieved his dream two years prior when he became a homeowner. His brother-in-law, Mohammad, expressed deep regret regarding his relative’s murder, saying, “All he wanted to do was work and come home and be with his family.”

A long-time resident of Chicago who had journeyed from Palestine 18 years ago, Ghnimat’s untimely demise came as a shock to his immediate family. Recalling the incident, Ghnimat’s son- who wished to remain unnamed- mentioned that he was on the phone with his father and rushed out after hearing the sound of gunshots. He was met with the gruesome sight of his father’s lifeless body.

Police authorities are presently examining security camera footage, which appears to show the alleged perpetrator escaping after the shooting. Officials have yet to identify a motive for Ghnimat’s murder.
