Woman dies at airport after getting trapped in baggage claim machine

CHICAGO, IL – A puzzling incident occurred at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago on Thursday when a woman was found dead, ensnared in the machinery in the baggage processing area of the airport.

Around 7:45 a.m., the Chicago Fire Department received a call regarding an individual trapped in baggage machinery. Responding to the scene, they discovered a seven-year-old woman entangled in the conveyor belt system of a baggage room.

According to Larry Langford, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department, the room in question was not accessible to the public, leaving officials uncertain as to how the woman managed to get in.

Scott Allen, who serves as a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Labor, reportedly confirmed that the deceased woman was not an airport employee.

The scene was handed over to law enforcement for further investigation. Chicago police disclosed that the unidentified woman was unresponsive upon discovery and was pronounced dead at the location, launching a detective’s probe.

Police reports initially noted that the woman was found around 2:27 a.m., leading to questions regarding the substantial delay before fire and emergency services arrived. However, after review of the surveillance footage, it was revealed that the woman entered the room at 2:27 am. The actual discovery of her body, which prompted a 911 call, happened at 7:30 a.m.

Nathaniel Blackman, a police spokesperson, clarified that the surveillance cameras were not being monitored in real-time. The footage was only reviewed after the discovery of the woman’s body.
