Woman dies as U-Haul vehicle crashes into tree with children inside

DETROIT, MI – A fatal accident occurred in Detroit on Friday morning when a U-Haul vehicle, carrying children among its passengers, crashed into a tree. The Detroit Police Department reported that the tragic mishap took place at about 10 a.m., near Eight Mile on the east side of Detroit, on Mound.

Following the crash, the driver and an accompanying passenger hurriedly abandoned the vehicle, leaving a woman, a man, and three children in the damaged U-Haul. Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries after having to be extracted from the vehicle. The man and the children were rushed to a nearby hospital. They were suffering from injuries that were non-life threatening, as the police indicated.

Richard Adams Jr., who works in an auto parts store in front of the crash scene, rushed to assist. He described the gruesome sight, recalling the dashboard and metal being pushed into the woman. He mentioned that she was having difficulty breathing and was bleeding heavily.

The cause of the crash is still unknown at this time. Adams recounted his efforts to help, including injuring himself trying to pry open the vehicle door. He found an infant on the ground, who had presumably been ejected through the windshield, while another child was discovered under a seat. The effort to get to that child involved removing the seat.

Apparently, the total count of passengers in the U-Haul at the time of the crash is still under investigation. The police are on the lookout for the driver and the passenger who absconded from the scene. The Detroit Police Department continues its inquiry into the entirety of the incident.
