Morgan Lund, a 21-year-old woman from Wisconsin, pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide charges in court on Monday. Lund allegedly stabbed her ex-boyfriend 19 times while he slept last month. According to court documents, Lund claims she was having a dream when she attacked her ex-partner.
Police arrived at the couple’s home in Oshkosh just before 8 a.m. on February 18 to find Lund crying and covered in blood while she applied pressure to the victim’s wounds. Lund reportedly told police that she “thought she saw something” when she attacked her ex, who she shares a child with, and was worried there was “something wrong” with her head.
Around 6:30 a.m., the young mother awoke and took the baby into the living room so that the child could play in the playpen. Her ex-boyfriend was reportedly sleeping on the couch at the time. Lund claims she has a muddled memory of something that might have been a dream, but she thought the stabbing victim was yelling at their daughter.
According to the complaint, Lund then saw a dark, non-human “figure” start attacking her ex. Lund used a pair of scissors to attempt to kill the imaginary figure. However, in reality, she was attacking her ex-boyfriend. The victim told police that he woke up to the violent stabbing and successfully fought her off.
As a result of the 19 stab wounds to his back, shoulders, chest, face, and hands, the man believed he was going to die.
The stabbing was not the incident of violence that Lund initiated against her ex throughout their three-year relationship. The victim told authorities that Lund had been abusive, hitting him on several occasions.
Lund is being held on $250,000 bond, and a psychiatric evaluation was ordered for her. April 13th is the next court date in the case.
