BALTIMORE, MD – On Saturday afternoon, downtown Baltimore turned into the site of a severe shooting that resulted in a man being critically injured. Law enforcement arrived at the scene around 3:15 p.m. on the 200 block of Marion Street where they found an unresponsive man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition. His condition prompted the police to alert homicide detectives.
During the investigation, police cordoned off a section of Park Avenue, stretching from Lexington Street to CFG Bank Arena. The Stevie Nicks concert crowd milling around the arena and vehicular movement downtown felt the impact of the police presence. Shawn Tarrell, who had witnessed the police action at the scene, described it as a “crazy mess”.
In a related incident occurring only 15 minutes later and less than a half-mile away, in the 400 block of East Baltimore Street, a female suspect was taken into custody. The woman had reportedly discharged a firearm during a road rage scenario and then shot at an off-duty police officer, prompting retaliation.
Frustrated local resident Tarrell bemoaned the situation, acknowledging it as “just another day in Baltimore” and expressing a wish for change. The shooting on Saturday afternoon was part of a recent violent wave within the city.
Previous incidents included two men being shot dead on Kathland Avenue in Northwest Baltimore on Friday night, and an episode in West Baltimore where two individuals fled a liquor store following the shooting of a 31-year-old man.
