Two people shot, one dies, in downtown Miami

MIAMI, FL – A shooting in the heart of downtown Miami early Thursday morning left one man dead and a woman injured, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement as they work to piece together the events leading up to the incident.

Authorities were alerted just after 5 a.m. when they received a call from a man whose friend had informed him she was shot. Another call soon followed from a resident reporting the sound of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, police discovered a woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her legs and, nearby, a man who had succumbed to his injuries.

Drone footage revealed a vehicle with its hood ajar, identified by police as belonging to the man who initially called for help. The scene, marked by a purple tent, became the focal point for investigators as they sought to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.

The area, bustling with high-rise buildings and heavy traffic, is known for its proximity to the Brightline train station and a nearby homeless encampment. Residents in the vicinity reported hearing multiple gunshots, describing the noise as potentially mistaken for construction sounds, followed by a woman’s screams.

One witness recounted hearing two distinct shots, which were then followed by additional gunfire, intensifying the urgency of the situation. As the crime scene investigation van arrived, detectives donned umbrellas to shield their work from the rain, which police noted was complicating their efforts.

The injured woman was quickly transported to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery. Authorities hope to speak with her once she recovers, as her account could provide crucial insights into the events that transpired.

Despite the absence of a firearm at the scene, police are appealing to the public for any information that could aid their investigation. Given the area’s high foot traffic, they are optimistic that someone may have witnessed critical details that could help solve the case.
