CATAWBA COUNTY, NC – Authorities in Catawba County have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a mass shooting at a weekend house party that left one person dead and 11 others injured. Garin Nathaniel Killian of Lenoir is facing charges of attempted murder following the tragic incident on Walnut Acres Drive.
The shooting erupted early Sunday morning at a gathering of approximately 100 people. According to the sheriff’s office, Killian allegedly fired into the party from an elevated position in a neighboring yard. The gunfire prompted some party-goers to return fire, resulting in the death of 58-year-old Sean Patrick Hood. The victims, ranging in age from 16 to 58, suffered gunshot wounds and injuries as they tried to escape the chaos.
Authorities have reported that more than 80 shots were exchanged during the incident, highlighting the scale of the violence. As the investigation continues, Killian remains in custody, facing the serious charge of attempted murder.
This incident has drawn attention to Killian’s past legal troubles. Just months before, he was in court for a similar incident involving gunfire into a crowd at a Chuck E. Cheese. Released on a $100,000 bond, questions are now being raised about why he was free to allegedly commit another violent act.
The community is grappling with the aftermath of the shooting, as residents and officials alike seek answers and justice. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation to piece together the full story and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The courthouse is expected to be the scene of intense scrutiny as Killian stands before a judge, with many watching closely to see how the legal proceedings unfold. Especially consider Killian’s recent past
