Detectives detained several people after locating two vehicles that left the scene and are working to determine what led to the gunfire.
GARLAND, TX — Three men died after a shooting outside a Garland home Sunday morning, and police were questioning several people as detectives worked to determine how an apparent neighborhood dispute turned deadly.
Garland police responded about 7:45 a.m. Sept. 13 to the 400 block of Bay Shore Drive, where officers found three men with gunshot wounds outside a residence. Two were pronounced dead at the scene. The third was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died, according to police.
Investigators believe the men knew one another and that the shooting may have grown out of a disturbance that began the previous night, Garland police Lt. Pedro Barineau said. Police had not publicly detailed the relationships among those involved or established the precise sequence of events leading to the shooting.
Police learned after arriving that two vehicles had left the area before officers reached the scene. Officers later located both vehicles and detained several occupants for questioning. Barineau said those being questioned were cooperating with investigators as detectives tried to determine what happened and what roles, if any, individual people played.
No arrests or criminal charges had been announced in connection with the shooting as of early Monday. Police also had not released the identities of the three men who died. Authorities have not publicly identified a suspected shooter or said whether detectives recovered any firearms connected to the case.
Barineau said investigators were seeking surveillance video that might show what happened before, during or after the shooting. Detectives were also using information from the detained people to reconstruct the events that led to the confrontation.
Police described the shooting as an isolated incident while the investigation remained underway. That assessment indicated investigators did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the wider public, though key questions about the shooting, including who fired the shots and what prompted the confrontation, remained unresolved.
The case developed throughout Sunday as authorities updated the condition of the third victim. Initial reports said two people had died and a third remained hospitalized in critical condition. Police later confirmed that the hospitalized man also died, raising the death toll to three.
Garland police continued investigating the shooting Monday and had not announced arrests. Detectives were reviewing available evidence, interviewing people connected to the case and seeking additional video that could clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
