Three dead in violent family shooting standoff

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA – A violent standoff in Rancho Cordova, California, resulted in three deaths early on Thursday morning. Among the deceased were an elderly couple whose lives were taken by their son, who was later shot by officers from a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, disclosed the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began when emergency services responded to a distress call from a lady inside a home located on the 3300 block of Hartselle Way, who claimed to have been shot.

The first responders discovered the seriously injured woman at the doorway of the building, where she later succumbed to her injuries. A dead man was also found inside of the residence.

The standoff ensued as the suspect refused to surrender despite numerous appeals from law enforcement. Eventually, the armed suspect emerged from the house into the backyard, brandishing a rifle. The SWAT deputies responded by opening fire. This exchange of bullets resulted in the death of the suspect.

While the identities of those killed have not been officially released, it has been verified that they were family members- specifically, a son and his parents. As of now, the motive behind the deadly shooting is still unclear.
