Thirteen arrested in raid targeting drugs at popular venue

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – Authorities conducted an undercover operation at a popular West Hollywood establishment, resulting in over a dozen arrests late Friday. The operation, led by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, took place at the Abbey Food and Bar, sparking initial confusion among locals.

Witnesses initially mistook the law enforcement presence for an immigration raid, prompting some street vendors to abandon their carts. However, officials clarified that the operation was solely a local effort, with no federal agencies involved.

The Sheriff’s Department revealed that the operation was in response to community concerns regarding pickpocketing, drug sales, and other criminal activities in the area. During the raid, deputies arrested 13 individuals on drug-related charges, including both patrons and staff of the venue.

Residents expressed mixed reactions to the news, acknowledging the persistent issues of drug use and crime in West Hollywood. Steve, a local resident in recovery, emphasized the importance of awareness in tackling these challenges.

Similar operations have been conducted in the area previously, and some locals were unsurprised by the recent developments. “It’s been an ongoing issue,” one resident noted, suggesting that the Abbey itself may not be solely at fault.

The narcotics division is now handling the case. Efforts to reach the Abbey for comment were met with a response that they are deferring all communications to the authorities.
