Police Investigate Death of 19-Year-Old Woman Found Shot in Garage

Charlotte Gallegos Aragon, 19, was found wounded inside a home on Silver Star Circle.

COLTON, CA — Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old woman found fatally shot inside a garage at a San Bernardino County home on June 15, authorities said.

Charlotte Gallegos Aragon was found inside a residence in the 1000 block of Silver Star Circle after officers responded to a report of a shooting early that morning. Colton police said suicide has been ruled out, but investigators have not classified the case as a homicide. No suspect or motive has been announced.

Officers from the Colton Police Department were called to the home at about 1:26 a.m. June 15 after receiving a report of a possible gunshot victim in the area. When officers arrived, they found Gallegos Aragon suffering from a gunshot wound inside the garage, police said. Colton Fire Department personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators later identified her publicly and said detectives were continuing to review the circumstances around the shooting. Cecilia Felix, whose son was dating Gallegos Aragon, said the young woman had a bright presence. “It was her energy that would just pull you towards her,” Felix said. “She was a great person and very caring, and she was fun to be around.”

The investigation is being handled by Colton police detectives with help from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Scientific Investigations Division. Authorities have not said who else was inside the home when the shooting occurred, whether a weapon was recovered or how many people may have been interviewed. Police have also not released information about the type of firearm used. Felix said Gallegos Aragon lived at the home with her mother and another family. She said the victim’s mother was at work when the shooting happened. The case remains listed as a death investigation, a term police use when the manner and full circumstances of a death are still being reviewed. Detectives have said suicide is not considered the cause, but the final classification remains pending.

Gallegos Aragon was remembered by relatives and friends as a recent Colton High School graduate who played soccer and was working for Amazon. Felix said the 19-year-old “had a lot to live for” and that her death has left those close to her waiting for answers. The shooting happened in a residential area of Colton, a city in San Bernardino County near major Inland Empire freeways and several neighboring communities. The Silver Star Circle home became the center of the police response after the early morning call. Police have not described the case as a threat to the wider neighborhood, but they have not said whether they believe the shooting was isolated to the residence.

No arrests had been announced as of June 24. Police have not identified a suspect and have not released a possible motive. The next steps in the case include detective interviews, forensic review and any findings from the county scientific investigations team. The San Bernardino County coroner’s process is also expected to remain part of the record as officials determine the formal cause and manner of death. Police identified Detective Isabel Jaramillo as the investigator assigned to receive information in the case. Authorities have not announced a news conference, a court date or a timeline for when the case may be reclassified.

Felix said Gallegos Aragon’s mother has been struggling since the shooting and has been sharing photos and videos while grieving her daughter. “Most days she’s crying, sending me pictures and videos of them,” Felix said. “She just really misses her daughter.” Felix also said she believes there is more to learn about what happened inside the home before police arrived. “There was a lot more that was going on in this house,” she said. “I’m so angry that there’s no arrests.” Police have not responded publicly to those claims with additional details. The department’s public statements have stayed focused on the open investigation and the evidence still being reviewed.

The case remains active in Colton, with Gallegos Aragon’s death still under investigation and no suspect publicly named. The next public milestone will be any police update on the case classification, evidence review or possible arrest.
