BELLEVUE, WA – A 13-year-old boy riding his bicycle was intentionally hit by a car on Saturday night in Bellevue, sparking a police investigation, authorities said. The incident occurred at approximately 8:22 p.m. along Lake Washington Blvd. NE near Clyde Beach Park, according to the Bellevue Police Department (BPD).
Witnesses reported that the vehicle, occupied by several juveniles, deliberately swerved into the bike lane, striking the teenager who was returning home from swimming.
Before the collision, occupants of the car reportedly yelled at the boy and threw a black Puma shoe at him. The boy was subsequently transported to Overlake Hospital with serious injuries, though they were deemed non-life-threatening. He was released the same day, but his bicycle sustained significant damage.
The car involved is described as a silver Hyundai Elantra with a missing rear driver-side window, temporarily replaced with a red towel or sunshade. The police suspect the vehicle was stolen and noted that the driver was a young girl with short black hair, though further details about other individuals in the car were unclear.
The Bellevue Police Department urges anyone with information about the incident to reach out. Investigators stressed that those responsible, once apprehended, will face charges of second-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief, reflecting the severity of their actions.
