Teenager stabs mom to death during argument

WILKES-BARRE, PA – In a shocking incident in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, a 13-year-old girl has been accused of fatally stabbing her mother following an altercation. The girl, identified as Lataya Powell, faces charges including criminal homicide and aggravated assault.

According to officials from the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, officers responded on March 29 to an emergency call at a home on South Sherman Street in Wilkes-Barre. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive 44-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also found a second victim, an 11-year-old boy, with apparent stab wounds to his back. The boy was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment.

The accused, Powell, was taken into custody at the scene and later placed under arrest at police headquarters. She was charged as an adult due to the severity of the crime.

The deceased woman was identified as Tameeka Tucker. Reports indicated that Powell told police during her custody that she stabbed her mother during a heated argument and discarded the weapon on a neighbor’s doorstep.

Powell reportedly stated in the criminal complaint, “I killed my mom, and she’ll never forgive me if she is alive.” She also told officers, “I don’t have my phone because my mom took it before our fight.”
