Teen mom stabbed to death on her way to work

HOUSTON, TX – A woman has been arrested by Houston police in connection with the killing of a young mother who was walking to work when she was stabbed and robbed of her purse. Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner announced the arrest of Kaysone Sky Blossom, 37. She was charged with capital murder in the death of Kayla Stevenson, a 17-year-old who was heading to her job in the city’s Galleria neighborhood when she was attacked.

Community tips helped to identify Blossom as a suspect, according to court documents. Kyoto Stevenson, the victim’s mother, told media sources that Kayla worked at Lids and the NBA store at the Galleria. Kylie Stevenson described her daughter as her best friend, a “fun-loving, free spirit” who loved to laugh and was always happy.

Finner said witnesses flagged down a police officer, reporting two women fighting over a handbag. Kayla was found lying on the sidewalk at the scene on W Alabama Street near McCue Road and was pronounced dead.
The purse that was stolen was a hot pink Juicy Couture bag with hearts and a rhinestone JC logo- a present from her fiance for their baby daughter, Kalani.

Stevenson’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to cover funeral expenses and are hoping for justice. “I hope you saw her last look in her eye, and hope it haunts you for the rest of your days,” Kylie Stevenson said.

Houston police are urging shoppers to stay vigilant and be aware of their surroundings, providing patrols in the area due to the holiday season.
