Teen dies after unprovoked attack

LOS ANGELES, CA – Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old man who succumbed to injuries sustained in a random attack on the streets of Koreatown. The young man, Joon Hee Hon, was assaulted while walking to work, leaving his family in search of justice and answers.

Hon was on his way to his job in the middle of the afternoon when he was struck from behind, knocked to the ground, and repeatedly punched. Despite suffering a head injury, he initially believed he was not seriously hurt and continued with his daily routine. However, complications arose days later, leading to his hospitalization and eventual death.

Family members recounted their last conversations with Hon, revealing his reluctance to fight back due to the perceived danger. His father shared that Hon had mentioned the attacker was significantly larger, prompting his decision to avoid escalating the situation.

The attack occurred on July 18 near the intersection of 7th Street and Serrano Avenue. Hon continued to work until he collapsed five days later, experiencing dizziness and difficulty breathing. He was subsequently placed in a coma and tragically passed away without ever reporting the incident to authorities.

The Los Angeles Police Department is now actively seeking witnesses and security footage to piece together the events leading to Hon’s death. The investigation is being treated as a potential homicide, with detectives working to identify the assailant.

Despite efforts, no suspects have been apprehended, and the search for crucial evidence continues. The Hon family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses, appealing to the community for support during this difficult time.
