A 25-year-old girl is shot and killed by her boyfriend

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – A neighborhood usually characterized by its tranquility was shattered by tragedy on Sunday morning when the life of 25-year-old Alyssa Rose Weast was violently cut short. The incident unfolded in the 200 block of Morehead Avenue, where the sound of gunfire pierced the air, followed by Alyssa’s desperate cries for help. She succumbed to her injuries at Lankenau Hospital after being shot multiple times.

Alyssa’s boyfriend, 26-year-old Michael Duke from Warminster, has been charged with her murder. Duke surrendered to authorities the day after the incident. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has charged him with first and third-degree murder, as well as possession of an instrument of crime. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday.

The community is struggling to comprehend the loss of Alyssa, who was remembered by her family as a vibrant, kind-hearted individual with a promising future. A graduate of the University of Delaware, Alyssa was building a career as a microbiologist. Her family expressed profound grief, describing her as a beacon of hope and joy whose potential was boundless.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, police were alerted to the scene shortly after midnight when a neighbor reported hearing gunshots. Officers found Alyssa on the sidewalk, a short distance from her home, with gunshot wounds to her torso. A trail of blood led back to her residence, indicating the horrific path she took in her final moments.

Investigators revealed that Michael Duke was not registered as a gun owner. However, Alyssa had purchased a firearm in 2020, which authorities suspect may have been used in the shooting. A suitcase containing men’s clothing, believed to belong to Duke, was discovered outside the home, suggesting he had been staying with Alyssa.

Neighbors recounted seeing Duke near his truck shortly after the shooting, before he left the scene. It was his mother who contacted the police, stating that her son was in shock and wanted to surrender.

As the investigation continues, Alyssa’s family finds solace in the memories of her boundless spirit and the indelible mark she left on those who knew her. The community mourns the loss of a young woman whose life was filled with promise and potential.
