School shooting leaves 2 dead, 4 more injured

WINDER, GA – On Wednesday morning in Georgia, a shooting took place in Apalachee High School, resulting in the death of two people and injuries to four others, as confirmed by two law enforcement sources. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that one suspect had been apprehended.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office stated that while casualties have been reported, the projected number of victims and their conditions are yet to be ascertained. Grady Health System, an Atlanta-based hospital operator, confirmed the hospital’s reception of a gunshot victim from the high school.

Despite the urgency for further information, the sheriff’s office declared that no more information would be forthcoming until a press conference slated for later on Wednesday.

Upon receiving updates about a probable active shooter, the school administration promptly initiated a lockdown for students and staff at its location in Winder, roughly 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. After approximately an hour, the area was secured, and students were sent home to their families.

There was a substantial police presence on the school grounds on Wednesday morning. Aerial footage of the scenee highlighted scores of ambulances, officers, a medical helicopter in the parking lot alongside the school’s ground. At this point, one individual had been moved into the helicopter on a stretcher, and students were redirected to the school’s stadium for bus pickups.

Members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation were also in attendance at the scene, as evidenced by a social media statement that confirmed assistance in coordinating local law enforcement efforts.

Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp moved state resources to address the incident and requested prayers from the Georgian populace for the safety of those in classrooms across the state. He assured of continuous cooperation between local, state, and federal partners in collecting information and optimally responding to the situation.

The incident elicited a response from the White House Press Office, which confirmed that President Biden and his administration were aware of the incident and were monitoring the ongoing situation.
