Parking lot shooting leaves one man dead at shopping center

On Sunday afternoon in University City, one person was killed in a shooting that took place in a shopping center parking lot. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the emergency. Upon their arrival, they discovered a victim with gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts to save the victim’s life, he was pronounced dead shortly after the arrival of medical personnel. The incident occurred at the University Pointe Shopping Center on University Pointe Boulevard near Ikea Boulevard.

CMPD Major Gabe Chickoree expressed his appreciation for the swift response of the first officers on the scene, acknowledging their valiant attempts to save the young man’s life.

The University Pointe Shopping Center, typically bustling with activity, was partially cordoned off by crime tape, leaving shoppers surprised and concerned. Peaches Brown, an employee at a nearby fast food restaurant, recounted her encounter with the victim just moments before the shooting. According to Brown, the victim had been engaged in a conversation with other patrons inside the establishment before stepping outside, where an argument escalated into six gunshots.

The senseless violence that unfolded in a public area filled with shoppers left not only customers and employees shaken but also Major Chickoree, a long-time resident of University City. He expressed his dismay at such incidents occurring in a place that is usually considered safe and frequented by the community. The identity of the victim and the circumstances caused the shooting remain unknown at this time. Law enforcement authorities are hopeful that surveillance footage may aid in identifying the suspects involved in the shooting.
