HENRY COUNTY, GA – An eight-year-old girl from Georgia tragically lost her life after a motorist struck her while she was getting on a school bus, leading to the driver’s arrest in relation to the incident.
The young girl was in the process of boarding a Henry County School bus on Jackson Lake Road, near a private driveway, when she was hit by a Ford Fusion. The Georgia State Patrol reported this incident, which occurred on Thursday.
The school bus, at the time of the incident, had its red warning lights flashing and both its front and rear stop signs were clearly visible, according to the State Patrol.
Following the collision, the girl was urgently airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital due to the severity of her injuries. Sadly, by Saturday, she had succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the girl was identified as 25-year-old Kaylee Andre. She was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Henry County Jail. Andre faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, failure to stop for a school bus loading and unloading, and failure to exercise due care.
It was reported that Andre’s windshield was covered in ice at the time of the incident. Allegedly, she did not clear all the ice, which may have obstructed her view partially.
