Mother of Two Killed After Burleson Police Chase

Bianca Garza, 34, was identified by her family after authorities said an apparent murder-suicide ended a pursuit near Cresson.

BURLESON, TX — A 34-year-old mother of two was killed Thursday after police said her estranged husband forced her into a vehicle in Burleson and led officers on a pursuit that ended near an airport in Cresson, where both were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Bianca Garza was identified by her family as the woman killed in the Oct. 29 incident. Burleson police said preliminary findings indicated the deaths were a murder-suicide. Authorities had not publicly identified the man in initial reports, and investigators were continuing to examine what led to the confrontation and pursuit.

The incident began about 7:45 a.m. when Burleson public safety personnel responded to reports of an armed man in the 700 block of West Hidden Creek Parkway. Police said witnesses saw a man outside with a woman before he forced her into a vehicle. Investigators said initial information showed that the two were estranged spouses.

The vehicle left the area and traveled south on State Highway 174, also known as Wilshire Boulevard. Burleson officers attempted to stop the driver, but police said he refused to comply. Officers then began a pursuit that continued out of Burleson and toward Chisholm Trail Parkway.

The chase moved into Parker County and ended near Bourland Field Airport in Cresson. Earlier reporting from the pursuit placed the vehicle near the dead end of Flagship Court shortly after 8:20 a.m. Video provided to local news outlets showed a sport utility vehicle leaving the roadway at points as several police vehicles followed.

After the pursuit ended, officers found the man and woman unresponsive inside the vehicle. Burleson police later said both had apparent gunshot wounds and were dead. Police emphasized that no responding law enforcement officers fired their weapons during the incident.

Police Chief Billy Cordell said the people involved were an estranged married couple who had moved to the Burleson area in August. Garza’s family later confirmed her identity to FOX 4 and said she was a mother of two. Authorities initially withheld the identities of the people who died while relatives were being notified.

Several agencies assisted during the pursuit and response, including the Johnson County, Parker County and Tarrant County sheriff’s offices, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Fort Worth Police Department’s Air 1 helicopter unit. The multiagency response stretched across several jurisdictions as officers followed the vehicle from Burleson toward Cresson.

The deaths remained under investigation Thursday night. Police described the murder-suicide determination as preliminary, meaning investigators were still working to establish the full sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the deaths. No additional threat to the public was reported in connection with the incident.

Garza’s identification marked the first publicly reported detail about the victim beyond the police account of the chase and deaths. Authorities had not announced additional findings about what happened before officers were called, and investigators had not released further details about the man’s identity by late Thursday.
