In a shocking act of violence, a mother was brutally beaten to death with a hammer. Her young son and daughter are now fighting for their lives after the brutal attack in a rooming house in Brooklyn. Police officials are investigating the incident and have apprehended a suspect in connection to the mom’s death.
Authorities discovered the lifeless body of the 43-year-old woman. Her battered children were also with her, identified as a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl. The three family members were found inside their cramped room on the second floor of the Sunset Park building. The discovery was made after the police responded to a 911 call reporting an ongoing assault. Upon arrival, officers arrested a 47-year-old man who was attempting to leave the building.
During a news briefing, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell described the incident as a “horrific and senseless act of violence” that claimed the life of a married mother of two. Chell expressed the community’s collective shock and offered prayers for the grieving family.
Disturbing video footage also showed police officers carrying the bloodied children out of the apartment. The victims were immediately rushed to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, where the mother was pronounced dead. The two young children remain in critical condition, receiving urgent medical attention. Police recovered a bloodied hammer from the scene, indicating the brutal nature of the attack.
The motive behind the violence is yet to be determined. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken into custody and transported to the 72nd Precinct stationhouse for questioning. Charges against him are pending as investigators work to gather more information about the incident.
