ANAHEIM, CA – A man living in an apartment complex in Anaheim fatally shot the property manager before turning the gun on himself, according to local authorities. The violent incident occurred in the apartment complex located in the 800 block of South State College Boulevard, which drew the attention of the Anaheim police around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a woman in her 60s who had been shot. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries. Footage from the scene displayed a significant law enforcement turnout, consisting of a SWAT team, among other officers.
The individual deemed responsible for the shooting reportedly sealed himself in his apartment, leading to a tense search that lasted for several hours. The standoff concluded around 9:30 p.m., when SWAT officers broke into the attacker’s apartment, discovering him dead due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to Sgt. Jon McClintock from the Anaheim police department, the victim, and the suspect were acquaintances, though additional details about this relationship remain undisclosed. A witness at the scene, identified as Joe Guerrero, described the scene stating that the assailant “came up to her…and shot her four times.”
In the course of the standoff, multiple residents were forced to evacuate their homes. However, they were later permitted to return to their residences.
