Texas mom Sheborah Latrice Thomas has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after admitting to drowning her two children, Kayiana and Araylon, in a bathtub in 2016. She then hid their bodies under a neighbor’s home.
Thomas was charged with two counts of murder by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s office revealed that Thomas drowned her daughter Kayiana first and then her son, Araylon, after she called him to the bathroom.
After killing the children, Thomas put their bodies in a garbage can behind the house and went to her job to try and get her paycheck early. She attempted to dig a grave for the bodies, but was unable to dig a large enough hole.
The mother preceded to hide the bodies under a neighbor’s house. She then reportedly told a friend that she had drowned her children and needed to leave town. The friend did not believe her until Thomas showed him where to find the kids’ bodies.
After realizing what had happened, the friend contacted the Houston police. Thomas was also the mother of a 12-year-old boy at the time of the murders. However, the child was not at home and was unharmed.
According to ABC 13, Thomas lost custody of her children in 2012 after one of them was found walking the streets with a drunk homeless man.
The children’s family members created a GoFundMe page in remembrance of the siblings, stating that they were “good children who just loved being kids.”
